Although the gold rush may have ended almost 150 years ago now, Ballarat is still a destination that definitely deserves a visit! This town has a very rich and diverse history and with so much to see and do, you'll be spoilt for choice during your stay! Here are a few of our suggestions:
SOVEREIGN HILL
This outdoor museum is a recreation of Ballarat during its 1850s gold-rush era, when the city was home to over 150,000 gold diggers in search of their fortune. There is an underground gold mine tour, a horse-drawn coach tour around the town and many shops, theatres and schools to visit, all brought to life by costumed characters and over 40 horses!
KRYAL CASTLE
Australia’s only medieval theme park! Witness jousting tournaments with mounted knights in the Castle arena, squire training, archery, sword battles and wizardry. Visit the maze, museum, the jester’s theatre and even the torture dungeon!
LAKE WENDOUREE
Showcasing some of Ballarat’s most prestigious homes and lined with historic houseboats, Lake Wendouree is one of Ballarat’s best natural assets!
BALLARAT WILDLIFE PARK
Set in 16 hectares of natural bushland, the Ballarat Wildlife Park specialises in native Australian animals and a wide variety of exotic reptiles. Get up close and personal with koalas, wombats, kangaroos and crocodiles.
BALLARAT RAILWAY STATION
Ranking as one of Australia’s most impressive heritage railway stations, the Ballarat Railway Station complex is one of only three surviving nineteenth century station buildings in Australia.
With all of these spots just waiting to be visited in Ballarat, you’d be crazy to pass on this great deal to the Sovereign Hill Hotel. Get in quick; you don’t want to miss this great value!
